General Questions

1. Why was the ICNR started?
The ICNR was formed to address the state of Illinois' nursing shortage, and develop recruitment and retention strategies to ensure an adequate RN workforce for the future.

2. Who are the leaders of the ICNR?
They are nurses from various nursing organizations, associations and health-care facilities in Illinois who have been voted into leadership positions by our members.

They are any group or individual concerned about the nursing shortage and interested in ensuring an adequate number of nurses to provide quality health care to Illinois residents.

4. What has the ICNR accomplished?
The ICNR has designed and developed a Web site with information pertaining to the nursing shortage in Illinois for the media, other nurses and the public. We are planning programs to interest elementary and high school students in nursing careers, creating strategies to retain employed nurses, and developing programs to educate the public and media about the nursing shortage.

6. What are the frequency, length and location of meetings?
Our meetings are held every three months for the general ICNR membership and more frequently for members of the various committees. General meetings are four hours in length, and held via videoconference in Naperville and Springfield at the Illinois Hospital Association’s offices. Committee meetings are usually an hour in length and held via conference call.
