The Illinois Coalition for Nursing Resources was founded to address the nursing shortage by harnessing the energy, knowledge and innovative thinking of a broad spectrum of organizations and individuals and bringing them together to create a synergism not available elsewhere in Illinois.
It soon became apparent that of the many root causes for “this” shortage, the most basic lies in the limited capacity of the nursing education system in Illinois. Simply put the supply infrastructure is not large or organized enough to meet the demand.
Furthermore, the ICNR believes that the educational system cannot resolve this problem in isolation and that the provider system generating the demand, must reach out and partner with educator colleagues to make fundamental and sustainable changes.
The capacity issue is an issue featured prominently throughout the nursing education section of the CNI. This is an issue for all who are attempting to alleviate and prevent nursing shortages both now and in the future.
